New Kitchen Floor!

April 9, 2013 by Aliesha

Over Easter weekend, Tad’s parents came down to help us put in a new kitchen floor!

Day #1 (Thursday)
Tad and I removed the old green carpet (can we talk about how ugly it was?!) and the disintegrated foam underneath.  We started to brainstorm about what to do about the black “tar-like” substance left beneath.

Day #2 (Friday)
Trip to Lowe’s first thing for scrapers.  Then… All. Day. Long. We scraped black tar gunk off the floor of the breakfast nook.  Moved all the appliances out.  Late in the evening, we removed ALL of the old linoleum in the kitchen.

Day #3 (Saturday)
Trip to Lowe’s for leveling compound.  We used leveling compound to even out the floor in the places it was uneven.  We started laying the new floor mid-afternoon.  We measured, cut, trimmed, snapped, and hammered the floor all evening, but we finished that night!  Moved in the washer/dryer and oven.

Day #4 (Sunday)
Trip to Lowe’s for trim.  We started cutting the toe molding and realized we needed a miter box.  Trip to Walmart for a miter box … not in stock.  Moved the fridge back in.  Another trip to a different Walmart for a miter box.

Day #5 (Monday)
Cut all the trim and nailed it all in.  Cleaned up our mess!!

I still haven’t taken a photo with the trim on, but we need to touch up a lot of paint (and still paint the cabinets and most of the trim), so I’ll just wait to post it.

A HUGE thank-you to Tad’s amazing parents for helping us with this big project!

We love our beautiful new floor!!

Bird Zoo

April 6, 2013 by Aliesha

Today we went to a “bird zoo,” for lack of a better term.  It’s located about 50 minutes from our house, but we have never been before.

The girls loved it, and it was a perfect day, weather-wise, so we all enjoyed spending time together as a family.

They have this neat exhibit called the “Landing Zone” where you can purchase a feeding stick and let the birds land on you!  It was so fun.

You could even feed pink flamingos right out of your hand!

Vera was extremely nervous about the birds at first.  She kept saying that they were going to “get her”!

But she eventually warmed up to the birds a little bit and chased them with her feeding stick.  When one would land on her stick, though, she got scared again!

Cordelia would just giggle when birds would land near her!

This bird stayed on my stick/hand for a while!  It was so pretty!

I had five birds on me at once, but there are only three in this picture.

The girls enjoyed riding in their stroller during the rest of the trip.  We saw lots of exhibits!

We even saw some bees.

 Lots of birds…

We made lots of memories as a family today!

So thankful for opportunities like this to enjoy God’s beautiful creation while spending time together!

Family Easter Photos

April 1, 2013 by Aliesha

We’ve been CRAZY busy this weekend with a pretty major house project (if you follow me on Instagram, you have gotten a peek)!

I hope you all had a wonderful Resurrection Sunday yesterday and that you got to enjoy some time with family and friends!

Here are a few of our family photos from Sunday!

Tad’s parents have been staying with us this weekend (and helping with the aforementioned house project).

Our girls are dolls.  Seriously.

Flashback to last year and see how the girls have grown!  I get a little weepy when I see last year’s pictures. Vera was a baby then… she is a little girl now!  And Cordelia was a bitty thing… now she has so much personality!
