With cold and flu season upon us, I thought I’d share three simple ways you can help prepare yourself and your family! These are things you can do now that will help strengthen your immune system and prepare you for the colds and viruses that are sure to be prevalent in our communities this fall and winter.
Eat nourishing foods
It’s so important to eat healthy foods in order to keep our bodies strong enough to fight off illnesses. I like to make chicken stock (some people call it bone broth) about once a week during the fall and winter. I also love baking whole wheat bread (with freshly ground wheat) and serving up yogurt for my kids (rich in probiotics).
Reduce sugar consumption
Consuming sugar can inhibit your immune system (source) and none of us want to lower our immune system during cold and flu season! Skip the Halloween candy (or just have a couple of pieces). Be careful to note how much sugar is added to foods you buy (hint: it’s in almost everything!). When making homemade treats, consider finding recipes that use less sugar.
Stock up on supplements and essential oils
Right now I’m buying natural children’s cough syrup (purchased through ePantry), and I’m making sure I’m stocked on my favorite essential oils. Great essential oils for staying healthy in cold and flu season include lavender, tea tree, peppermint, immune strength, and lemon.
Currently Rocky Mountain Oils has a new kit of essential oils that includes the ones I mentioned and one more. It normally costs $107 for these six oils, but they’re at a steep discount just until Sunday night (October 26)! This is an awesome way to stock up on the basic essential oils you need to keep your family healthy. Check out the Purification Kit right here!
