I remember when I was in high school my mom had a lavender linen spray that she would spray on my sheets if I had trouble sleeping, and to this day, the scent of lavender is so soothing and comforting to me!
I had some energy this week and wanted to do something creative, so I decided to make my own essential oil linen spray! I made two different blends, but the possibilities are endless if you have several essential oils in your stash already! You can adjust the blends I created to your own liking as well. These can be sprayed on pillows, sheets, or in the room as an air freshener, but they are not intended to be used directly on skin.
First up, I made a blend for helping me sleep. (I don’t know about you, but when I’m pregnant, my sleep is often interrupted, so I rely on essential oils for a good night’s rest!)
Sleep Sweet Linen Spray
10 drops lavender
2 drops Roman chamomile
1.5 oz. distilled water
1.5 oz. vodka
Combine essential oils, water, and vodka in a 4 oz. glass spray bottle (blue or amber preferably). Shake well. Spray into the air and adjust the ratios/amount of oils as needed based on your preferences. (I didn’t want something “overpowering,” but just a light, pleasant fragrance.) Before using each time, make sure to shake thoroughly to distribute the oils in the rest of the solution.
Secondly, just in time for Valentine’s Day, I made a romantic blend!
Love Is In the Air Linen Spray
7 drops blend of jasmine
10 drops Sonata (blend of Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang Extra, Patchouli, Orange and Rose)
(optional) 10 drops sandalwoods (balances out the “florals,” but still nice without it)
1.5 oz. distilled water
1.5 oz.
Have you ever made essential oil linen sprays or air fresheners? Do you have any recipes to share?
Disclosure: This post contains links to the essential oil company I use and love. I personally purchased the oils and supplies used in this post and I was not compensated for writing it. If you choose to make a purchase through my links, it will help support my family and this blog. Thank you!

Hello! I do make sprays quite often, especially with lavender and citrus. I’m wondering what the vodka does to the spray? I usually just use EO’s and water. Tell me about the vodka. 🙂 Thanks!

Hi Erika, the vodka helps the oils mix into the water better. I’d love to hear your citrus spray recipe! That sounds lovely!

My most recent one was 10 drops lavender (angustifolia) and 8 drops of Lime in a 4 oz. bottle of water. Shake before using and spray away!

That sounds so nice, Erika!

Would you recommend the vodka for body sprays and air fresheners as well? My book only recommended the water and oil.
Aliesha says
I don’t know about body sprays, but for air fresheners (like this… to spray in the air), I’d use vodka too. But if you’re just using water and oil and it’s working for you, I’m sure that’s just fine too!
