This post is absolutely not meant as a complaint… but as a desire to get advice from other moms who have experienced this. As I said in my week 19 post, I have been experiencing a lot of lower back pain. It was the worst it has ever been last night. If you’ve also experienced this, do you mind answering a few questions for me?
-Did you do certain things that aggravated the pain more? (I’m wearing flat shoes, sleeping on my side, trying to have good posture, etc., but if there are other things I may be doing to cause this, I want to know.)
-Did you use heat? Cold? Alternate both?
-Was it worse on one side? Is that normal? (Mine is only on the right side.)
-Did you take pain reliever?
-Was it a sign for you that your belly was about to “pop out”? (I think that might be it for me.)
-Did massages help?
-Did you do stretches? If so, what kind?
-Do you have any other advice for things I can do?
Thank you for your opinions and your prayers!!
Here is a good article that could answered you question http://www.babycenter.ca/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/physicalhealth/backache/
For me, I know that I’m very flexible, I mean my joints are a bit too flexible and am prone to injury so during pregnancy and and having some hormone to relax my ligament well pain is very real and start early.
What helps,
– changing position frequently
– sleeping with positional pillow
– long warm bath (sometimes go to a friends house just to take a bath in their whirlpool LOL) (be careful that the water is not too hot, should not feel dizzy)
– these stretches helps too http://www.parentingweekly.com/pregnancy/pregnancy_health_fitness/lower_stretches.htm
Hope this helps!!!
Renee

Not sure on the shoes but all of mine are flat π
I do find however sleeping with a pillow between my legs helps A LOT. I also sleep on my side obviously… and on my back isnt an option any more because baby is just to heavy..
-Did you use heat? Cold? Alternate both?
Never used that pregnant but id ask your midwife. Not sure whats safe regarding heat and cold… I do find warm baths help tho so im sure its fine as long as its not to hot or cold
-Was it worse on one side? Is that normal? (Mine is only on the right side.)
Mines worse on the right … so I think its just how baby lays?? not sure… but def mine hurts more lower right side
-Did you take pain reliever?
Yea Tylenol. Its safe.
-Was it a sign for you that your belly was about to “pop out”? (I think that might be it for me.)
Nope hurt from the beginning lol… but in your case being your 1st it might be.
-Did massages help?
Yes this will help! Finding a good chiropractor might help 2. Did you know the girl in our sunday school class is a chiropractor π Shes super sweet
-Did you do stretches? If so, what kind?
I got some I will show u in person.. but I actually cant do them now that im so big. Once my baby is born tho ill teach you, they help to stretch your lower back muscles… if those muscles get TO TIGHT it can cause a lot of back pain. The stretches are very helpful. I used them before I got pregnant and could totally tell a difference.
-Do you have any other advice for things I can do?
Take it easy π Especially with that move coming up… dont lift anything over 10 lbs. Any time I lift a laundry basket (even a tiny one) I experience more back pain. I moved around our nursery today and im feeling the consequence of it now… Dont be scared to ask Tad to do more π
Hi Aleisha! I’m friends with Drea and found your blog the other day. I had TERRIBLE back pain/sciatica during both my pregnancies. I had to quit working at 6 mos pregnant with my 1st because I could barely stand!
With my 2nd pregnancy, I went to the chiropracter and that was my saving grace! I don’t know HOW I made it thru my 1st without the chiro!!
Warm baths DEFINITELY help. I got one of these which helped alot, especially if I was doing lots of activity…

My pain was so severe that Tylenol barely helped. So I had to take Lortab, which is a narcotic and tylenol basically. And both my babies turned out just fine. π
And I also used one of these ALL the time…

Hope you find some things that work for you to bring some relief! It just gets worse as you get bigger. But its ALLLL worth it in the end!
I was always afraid to take medicine while I was pregnant but a little bit of tylenol helped me and getting good massages and back rubs from Joshua certainly helped. I also would have it just on one side at different times. And I loved my baths (still do)!!!! I’m sorry that it is bothering you and will be praying.
I took heavy doses of Nyquill while pregnant with Caleb and felt horrible the entire pregnancy LOL.. I had no clue i was pregnant tho and had the flu! 102 temp or higher. he turned out ok? π The Placenta is an amazing gift from God! Tylenol and im sure what Kate mentioned wont hurt your little one. But you got to do what you are comfortable with.
Kate btw is like the coolest person. π I met her last summer in Ohio and hope to see her again soon enough!
oh and by horrible feeling i meant i was scared he would come out deformed or something because i took so much nyquill not knowing i was pregnant.
The Chiropractor def helps. My mom had 10 kids, and went for the last 4, and it helped so much.
I had back ache too. I found sleeping with a “banana pillow” very helpful. Its this long, U shaped pillow that you place between your legs. It supports your back and your tummy.
I also found that my backache was linked to the acidity I had all through pregnancy. So I had a cup of yoghurt just before I went to sleep. It helped a lot.
The chiropractor definitely helped me! Try to find one that does the Webster technique, as they are trained in pregnancy care.
