I’ve already written a few other posts about buying essential oils…
–what to look for in a company
–my top three essential oils for beginners
–what blends I have and how I use them
–scientific research showing which oils work & why
–what else you need beside oils when first getting started
…but today I want to write yet another one!
Sure, it’s great to hear what oils you should get, but which ones are actually used the most? My list is similar to the list I wrote for beginners, but the truth is, after having used essential oils for over two years, I have a handful that I gravitate towards the most!
If you use essential oils too, your list of “must haves” may be completely different than mine. If you don’t have any yet, this list is a great place to start!
The 10 Essential Oils I Use Most Frequently
Lavender
I’ve heard it said, “when in doubt, use lavender.” I have gone through more bottles of lavender than any other oil, so I think it must be true for us! I use it as a sleep aid, for cuts & bruises, for immune support in children, to soothe skin, and to help heal burns. Grab it here.
Melaleuca / Tea Tree
Melaleuca and Tea Tree are very similar. Tea Tree is stronger, so I use that one less (but it’s my go-to for cleaning yucky stuff). I use melaleuca for facial blemishes, infections (like an infected pierced ear lobe, etc.), sore throats, and immune support. Grab melaleuca here or tea tree here.
Frankincense
Expensive, yes, but frankincense is wonderful. When you dilute it in a carrier oil, it obviously goes further and you still get all of the benefits! I use frankincense on my face almost every day. I love how it smells (very grounding). Grab it here.
Spearmint
Because my kids are small, I use spearmint where peppermint is called for. It’s much safer for kids, plus it smells amazing! Our favorite thing to do when our kids are sick is run a nice, warm bath (with a few drops of lavender in it), then run the diffuser (this one is on sale) in the bathroom with spearmint in it while they are bathing. This works wonders for stuffy noses! The spearmint (and the warm air from the bath) clears their heads and the lavender helps make them drowsy for bed. Grab spearmint here.
Gentle Healer
This is basically a first aid kit in a bottle. I frequently put Gentle Healer on cuts, infections (like toe nails, etc.), broken skin, burns, and even eczema. When diluted properly, it will last a long time! Grab it here.
Purify
Because we’re constantly cleaning up gross/messy things, Purify is one of my most frequently used oils. Add a few drops to a spray bottle filled with vinegar and use it to clean surfaces. We also diffuse it to rid a room of nasty odors. Grab Purify here.
Orange
Orange is my favorite oil to diffuse, and I especially like to diffuse it when sickness is going around (or has already taken down someone in our home). Grab it here.
Vetiver
Vetiver is my go-to if I need help falling asleep! I used it a lot last summer, but now I can fall asleep anytime, anywhere without any trouble. Still, I always pack it when I travel! Grab it here.
Ginger
Tummy trouble? Ginger is your oil! I use this one for stomach troubles of all kinds. It’s gentle and soothing! (Rub, diluted, on abdomen.) Grab it here.
Peppermint
Peppermint is also great for stomach troubles when combined with ginger. I also like to use this one in homemade cleaning products. It’s also a great pesticide… ants hate it! Grab peppermint here.

Hi! I am thinking about buying the frankincense oil. I was wondering if the one in your link is 100% frankincense? Also, is it good quality? I am sorry to ask, but I have never bought it before and am wondering what to look for. Thank you very much!
Hi Jane,
There are three frankincense oils (all 100% pure) that RMO sells.
