It’s been well-established that I love chocolate. Recently, I took it upon myself to do a little comparison between three varieties of dark chocolate sold at Trader Joe’s. We don’t have a TJ’s close by, but when we travel to or through Raleigh or Richmond, we always stop and stock up on chocolate and other essentials.
The three bars I sampled were the Dark Chocolate Lover’s Bar (85% cacao), Organic Super Dark Chocolate (73% cacao), and Fair Trade Organic Belgian Dark Chocolate (72% cacao). It is my understanding that all of the chocolate that Trader Joe’s carries is ethically sourced (please correct me if I’m wrong).
I’ve tried all of these before, but never in a side-by-side comparison. Tough job, but someone had to do it!
In the picture below, top right is Belgian, bottom right is organic super dark, and left is dark chocolate lover’s.
First, I tried the Belgian dark. This chocolate is mellow, sweet, and subtle in its flavor.
Next, I tried the dark chocolate lover’s bar. This bar is fruity, with lovely notes of vanilla and a strong taste of cacao. It reminds me of cake!
Finally, I sampled the organic super dark. This chocolate is sweet and smooth. It’s very “silky” as it melts on your tongue!
Overall, I loved all three and I think they are good for different occasions and with different pairings.
My favorite of these three is the Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate Bar, since the flavor profile is so unique.
These chocolate bars are all very affordable! Last time I paid $1.99 for the Organic Belgian, $1.49 for the Dark Chocolate Lover’s, and $1.99 for the Organic Super Dark!
Have you ever tried any chocolate from Trader Joe’s? What’s your favorite?

I LOVE trader joe’s chocolate! I was so sad when we moved away from the trader joes. They have so many affordable organic foods that taste wonderful.
