We did it! We made the transition to cloth diapering full-time! (We were using disposables at night and sometimes when we traveled.)
Here’s our stash (the diapers we use every day):
-1 bumGenius one-size 4.0 with staps
-3 Fuzzibunz (snaps and adjustable/replaceable elastic)
-14 bumGenius one-size 3.0s (with Velcro)
Total: 18 diapers
(We also have about 25 cloth wipes.)
We use our Planet Wise wet bag to store the diapers waiting to be laundered. We do diaper laundry every two days and use bumGenius cloth diaper detergent. After we change Vera’s diaper at bedtime, I put in the load of dirty diapers. I hang the outside pieces to dry on a rack inside, and I dry the inserts in the dryer. (I’m looking forward to doing some drying outside this spring/summer!)
So that’s about it! I was worried at first that cloth diapering would be a TON of work, but it’s become so much a part of our lifestyle now that we hardly notice! The diapers have paid for themselves by now, and we’ll just continue to save money as we use them with Vera and any future babies!
That’s how it works for our family. How does cloth diapering work for you?

we use prefold and we love them, I like it better in the summer when I can dry them outdoor but we use dryer in the winter, this is our third baby and she is using the same diapers that we bought for our first and still are doing great (no leaks)

yay!! im glad the CD at night works for you. Never did for us. Our boys produce a mass amt of pee, and seriously I remember Taite socked thru a doubler, a BG insert and a WOOL cover – which are suppose to be the diaper covers for night time…
I love that you’ve gotten use to traveling with them too :)- that takes the biggest adjustment I think. But it becomes such a routine once you begin to do that.
and hanging diapers outside is so nice, it helps keep them whiter and it gets rid of any smell the wash may not. I look forward to it too! plus diapers just look cute and eco-cool lol hanging outside!

Oh I love cloth! Why didn’t I know this much about it when I had my 1st?! I used diaperswappers.com & craigslist for our last 2 packages of diapers. Spent around $300 total on EVERYTHING we needed, that included 9 brand new diapers! Can’t wait to save save save $$$$ ๐

I love cloth diapering…I just ordered the supplies for making my first batch of newborn diapers so that I can put the new baby in them soon after it comes…right now I only have to do cloth diaper laundry every three or four days but that will change when number two arrives!

Thanks for this post. I’ve been considering using cloth for baby #3 but not convienced yet. I like the idea, but not the thought of more laundry and a bucket of stinky waiting diapers.
Do you leave Vera with anyone else like in the church nursery? Do they know how to use cloth or do you just send disposable ones with her?
Aliesha says
@Joshua and Stephanieaww… little newborn diapers are sooo cute! Did you get fuzzibunz?
Aliesha says
@AngelaWe don’t have a big bucket of dirty diapers… just a wet bag that keeps all the odors inside! And the only time I’ve left Vera in the nursery and she needed a diaper change, Andrea did it. ๐ I’m sure the ladies wouldn’t have a problem, though. It’s really not any harder than a disposable!

We use a few different kinds, but I really like the convenience of All in one or pocket diapers right now… in fact, Ive been lazy and once those are dirty, I reach for disposables…
As far as the big bucket of stinky diapers, they are MUCH less stinky than disposables actually, and like you said, Aliesha, the wet bag holds it all in!
