I found a beautiful piece of driftwood (actually more like a weathered fence board) that was just begging me to paint something on it! I knew I wanted to put it somewhere in our beach bathroom, but I couldn’t come up with anything creative to paint on it. (“Life is a beach” didn’t seem quite what I was looking for.) Tad suggested I paint “every grain of sand” on it, from the song by the same title. Now, every time we look at the sign, we are reminded of these lyrics:
Then onward in my journey
I have come to understand
That every hair is numbered
like every grain of sand
…
I am hanging in the balance
of a perfect finished plan
Like every sparrow falling,
like every grain of sand.
{Bob Dylan / Derek Webb}
As an added bonus, this project was essentially free, since I used found wood and acrylic paint and a brush I already had.
I might leave the sign where it is, but I am also contemplating hanging it above one of the doors. We’ll see!

Lovely lyrics…I’ve never heard that song. I always enjoy seeing simple pieces of art like this, but haven’t been brave enough to try it myself…I don’t really have a steady hand. Yours looks great though!
This is lovely.
