While I Was Out…

January 19, 2015 by Aliesha

Last Friday, I was out running a few errands, and on my way home, I got a call from Tad.

“Hey… I’m driving. Is this an emergency?” I answered.
“Um. (pause) Kinda.” (another pause)
“What happened?”
“Well… Vera cut CC’s hair.”
“What?? How bad is it?”
“Uh… she cut a bunch off in the back. I wanted you to know before you came home and saw it.”

We continued the conversation, with me trying to understand how Vera could have cut off my sweet little CC’s ringlets!

I arrived home ten minutes later to assess the damage.

Cordelia, still cute as a button, had no more ringlets. The ringlets we all admired so much… just gone.

I came into the kitchen where Jude was finishing his dinner, and I was shocked to see his head.  Yep… all of his curls were gone too.

“Tad! She cut Jude’s hair too!” I shrieked.
“What? Really?”

After several minutes of convincing and feeling Jude’s scalped head, Tad finally agreed with me.

My baby had his first haircut at 16 months at the hand of his 4-year-old sister.

I walked into the girls’ room to talk to Vera.

Curls littered the path from the door to where Vera was sitting.  The fact that they were strewn throughout the room hinted at a struggle.DSC_0680copy

DSC_0682copyVera was balled up in the corner on the rocking chair.  She lifted up her head when I said her name.

And then I saw her hair.

She had given herself some lovely side-swept bangs as well.

(Tad also hadn’t noticed her hair.)

We talked a lot about scissors and safety and kindness and obedience.

I knew this would probably happen at some point in my parenting career, but it still did not prepare me for it!

But when I look at Jude’s hair and feel the sections that are close to “buzzed,” I realize that it could have been worse. Much worse.

That’s so funny hahahaha but I know not at the moment for you 🙂 and I bet Vera was scared when she realized what she did was bad. Ccs hair looks so cute tho!! And so does Jude. At least she cut the hair and not an ear 🙂

Yes… so thankful no one was injured! (They were child safety scissors, but still, you never know.)

Hilarious! Even tho’ Vera was naughty! They’ll have lots to laugh at when they read this when they are older! I agree…CC is still cute as a button…just like her Grammy!

Oh my word…not the ringlets!!! Lol! I love the way you told this story–it made me laugh but I’m sure the situation wasn’t laughable at the time 😉 I’m sure everyone learned some big lessons about scissors this weekend 😉

Oh yes… I was definitely trying to hold back the laughter at the time too! I didn’t want Vera to think her sin was funny… but the whole situation was quite ridiculous and I always keep my sense of humor about things! 😉 I don’t think she saw me laughing.

Ella cut her curls off when I was pregnant with Guinnyth. I had been (super) sick for several days and hadn’t even emerged from my room for two days. Mark was in charge and when I finally came out, I found tufts of hair behind the couch. Ella’s curls were scattered on the floor next to my knitting scissors. 🙂

Oh no! It’s like they have “scissor radar” or some crazy ability to find them anywhere!

Oh no, Vera went to town on everyone’s curls! I’m amused at how well she did! Beauty school in the near future?

I had had a hair cut about 2 days before (this day) when I noticed something was really off on top of my head. I kept touching my head and noticing there was a chunk of hair sticking up. My son, almost 3 at the time, grabbed teh scissors and cut my hair while I was taking a nap NEXT TO HIM! Kids do funny things… but they’re only funny when you tell the story, not in the moment. Poor your kids at Vera’s hands… 🙂

Wow, Noelia! Your story takes the cake!!

I finally found the photo I took LOL but I can’t add it here! Anyway… my hair grew so it doesn’t look like that anymore, but it was fun explaining why the hair looked the way it did LOL
