I don’t know about you, but with having a toddler and a baby on the way, date nights with my hubby have kind of become a thing of the past! Add in the limitation of finances (after paying for a sitter, we wouldn’t have any left to spend on the date!), and you can understand why it’s been a while since our last “real date.”

Tad and I talked about this goal together, and we decided that we will try and plan one at-home (or away from home, on the rare occasion that it works out) date night per month. Thursdays are a good night for us since we don’t have any church services, Bible studies, or youth events (usually) going on that night of the week.
We decided that we will alternate planning the date night, which will include cooking a meal and deciding on a game or activity. Vera goes to bed at 7pm, so we’ll just start our “date” after we tuck her in bed. We’re really looking forward to spending quality time together! We’re hoping to work in January and February’s date nights before Baby Mango arrives.

Since we have gotten married we have tried out best to go out once a month to just have some time for us. But late last year we decided we needed to be a little more proactive about our marriage and decided to claim one night a week as our date night. We usually don’t go out of the house except once a month but we guard that evening and have a nice dinner and play games or plan an activity or watch a a movie but it is all focused on just each other and it is wonderful. It can be hard to keep that one night but it’s so important the more kids you have to make sure you still keep that flame alive!

thanks for all of the great links! Since having a baby in the fall, this area has definitely slowed down but we still purpose to go out together. We are so blessed to be able to have lots of loving friends in our church who volunteer to stay with our baby for a few hours and we don’t have to pay them! Our church body is such a blessing to families, it’s amazing. Maybe you could do like a swap with another young family? You could watch their child while they go on a date one week and they could watch Vera the next? Just an idea!
We need to get better about spending time together in general but we are still working on establishing a solid bedtime, so it hasn’t been as easy yet! Hopefully soon 🙂

@NatalieI love the idea of swapping childcare with another couple! I’ll have to talk to some of my friends and see if they want to set something like that up.

I have 6 children under 10. The cost of a babysitter is too high to go out. We’ve tried swapping but it’s harder to do with a larger family. Instead, we have date nights at home. Here is our list:

I’m in the middle of finishing up changing my website host, so that link will be dead by the end of January. After the change, you can simply go to my site (my name link will still work to get there after the change) and find Date Nights at Home under the Frugal Living button.
