I posted a little while ago about our plans to cloth diaper. I thought I’d share what we ended up acquiring for that endeavor!
– 2 diapers (a Thirsties duo diaper and a FuzziBunz perfect size diaper in x-small) that might be the first diapers she can fit into!– 10 bumGenius One-Size Cloth Diapers (and, of course, the inserts that go in them). These are the 3.0s, since I bought them before the 4.0s came out.
– 10 infant Indian prefolds and 5 regular Indian prefolds, as well as a snappi. The prefolds will be used with covers…
– 5 covers (top to bottom: one small Thirsties diaper cover, two Thirsties duo wraps with velcro, and two Thirsties duo wraps with snaps)
– Cloth wipes. I have 24 of these. Some of them are actually hand-me-down washcloths, and some are simple flannel squares. I need to mix up some cloth wipes solution using a recipe found here or here.
Not pictured:
– bumGenius cloth diaper detergent (1 box)
– bumGenius odor-removing spray (1 bottle)
I also have a couple bumGenius 4.0s coming my way soon.
We still plan on installing a diaper sprayer on our toilet.
We will keep you posted on how things go once we start cloth diapering our baby girl!

You’re going to love it π Though you may have to wait a few weeks before the diapers start to fit properly. When they are too big leaks are more common.
And don’t feel like you have to have cloth wipes solution. Plain old water works just fine, and some babies bottoms are sensitive to leaving the wipes solution on them.

What’s diaper spray? I have never heard of that before. Cloth diapering is wonderful and so worth it! As for wipes, I just used plain, lukewarm water.

Stacey,
Thanks! I definitely plan to use disposables for the first few weeks so she can grow into cloth. And it’s good to know I can just use water with the wipes!
The Scatterbrain,
I had heard that using a wipes solution helped make cloth wipes more effective, but it’s good to know you had good success with just warm water! Thanks!

It looks like you’re pretty much set to go – I just thought I’d mention that I’ve heard great things about Snap-Eez one-size nappies. And I’m by no means affiliated with them!

Do you prefer the snap, or velcro closures?? I am curious if the velcro holds up as well as the snaps.
Aliesha says
@Liz @ thequickjourney.blogspot.comI use bumGenius and Fuzzibunz all the time now (no prefolds anymore). My baby is quite the wiggle-worm, so the velcro closures are GREAT for easy fastening! I hang my diapers to dry so the velcro/elastic will last longer. Ultimately, the snaps will probably last longer, but the velcro is holding up great for me currently! No complaints. π

I’m glad to hear it. I just ordered my first cloth diapers today. I found some on sale for less than $10 on cottonbabies.com. They were the bumGenius 3.0 with velcro, but I still think that was a pretty good deal. I’m overwhelmed with all the cleaning/organizing of cloth diapers, but I know I will be happy when I make the switch. π
